Holy Week Schedule Expanded
You are invited to join us for Holy Week. All of our services are listed below. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us by responding to this email.
April 14, 9:00 am and 10:45 am
On Palm Sunday we remember Jesus' coming into the city of Jerusalem. We meet outside, in our front parking lot, and begin the service with a procession of palm-waiving and singing "hosanna." We then move from that glorious entrance to the dark time of the crucifixion. There is childcare, but no Sunday School.
April 15 through April 18, noon
During Holy Week, we remember Jesus suffering, death, and resurrection. One way we do that is by celebrating communion at noon, Monday through Thursday. The services are In our chapel, and last about half an hour.
TUESDAY April 16, 7:00 p.m. at the Belcourt Theatre
Tenebrae: A time of shadows.
Doors open at 6:30. Please invite your friends! In this event, all people are invited to experience the last days of Christ's life. Based in an ancient form, our version of this liturgy is non-traditional, intuitive, and experimental. Tenebrae is a gift to the community, and non-members are not only welcome, but should consider this event designed especially for them. There is no childcare, because we are off-site.
April 18, 7:00 p.m.
At this service, we commemorate Jesus' institution of the Eucharist, his command to love one another, and his washing of the disciples' feet. Footwashing as well as communion are part of this time of worship. The stripping of the altar ends this service. Childcare is available.
April 19, noon-3:00 p.m.
Good Friday: The Seven Last Words
Jesus hung on the cross for three hours on the first Good Friday. We hold an annual vigil during these same hours. While on the cross, Christ spoke seven times. Our vigil centers around these utterances. We use them as a guide for prayer, praise, meditation, and contemplation. All are welcome, some people come for just part of the service. Childcare is available.
April 19, 6:00 p.m. at Sevier Park
Good Friday: Outdoor Stations of the Cross
Follow Jesus from his temptation in the Garden of Gethsemane through his sufferings to his death on the cross. This service commemorates 14 biblical events while following a large cross around our property. Physical actions are included at some of the stations. All people are welcome, though you will need to be able to walk over uneven ground. Dress appropriately for the weather. Childcare is not available, since children are fully involved in this liturgy.
April 21, 5:30 a.m.
The Great Vigil of Easter
In this most ancient of Christian services, we gather to hear the story of salvation history as we await the dawn. As the sun rises, we celebrate Baptism and have Communion together. No childcare.
April 21, 9:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
Easter Celebration Services and Easter Feast
Join us for either of our festive Easter Celebration services. After the second service, stick around for the Easter Feast and kids' Easter Egg Hunt. We encourage members to park at the Lipscomb stadium and take the shuttle over to the church facility. There is childcare for the little ones, but no Godly Play or Sunday School.
