Creation Care Camp, a unique Christian summer learning experience. Creation Care Camp invites a sense of wonder and teaches children about creation and Creator by combining God’s word, science and hands-on activities.
Church of the Redeemer (Nashville) has offered this four day camp in June each year since 2012. At camp children learn about the particulars of their place by exploring and discovering local plants and wildlife, habitats and water systems, while learning and applying biblical stewardship and discipleship to their interaction with the people and place around them.
Creation Care Camp is designed to meet children where they are, as wondering children in the wonder of creation. They explore, observe, play, create, and question what has been, what is, and what will be their place. Among other concepts, campers learn that because God chose to be a part of matter, he is not separate from his creation, but has a permanent connection, Jesus Christ. We acknowledge that children are an active part of this connection between Heaven and Earth. As they plant a garden or learn about a nearby bird, children are linking and living out their belief that the new Jerusalem will come, meet us, where we are. Camp practically involves them in helping their place flourish.
This camp has become a valued part of our children’s ministry by making time and space for our children to know, love, and care for God’s creation around them.
Camp for Rising K to Rising grade 4
Each of the four days consists of activities, games, guest speakers, discovery time, and demonstrations. Groups formed by age are led by an adult and a teen assistant. Each morning starts out in prayer and scripture. Campers cycle through stations until they break for the Feast, snack time. A beautiful feast is prepared and presented outside with healthy, whole snacks. Older campers help with the set up and clean up. The day is finished out with another ground of stations before closing in prayer and play time.
Camp for 5th and 6th graders
2016 is the first year to extend the camp to our older age range. 5th and 6th grade campers will meet at the church during the same times as the younger camp. Two field trips to nearby destinations will expose campers to area organizations caring for creation. One other day will be filled with a service project at the church to maintain the beauty surrounds Redeemer. The other day campers and a leader will create space for writing, music, art, stillness and reflection.
