The Reverend Jennifer Martin
Music Worship Pastor

I was born and raised in Fort Worth, TX, surrounded by musical theater, classical music, a rich folk music scene, and singing nuns.  And though I enjoyed participating in Church music over the years in many different settings, I never intended to be a worship leader. I guess you could say I ‘stumbled into it’ on a short-term mission trip overseas when the scheduled worship leader missed his flight and I was all they had. In that moment, desperation converged into destiny as I strummed a borrowed guitar in a foreign land. Since then, so much has changed. Though I realize now, (with some Heavenly hindsight,) that God had been preparing me all along to be a worship leader; it continues to be with a touch of humor, a heavy dose of weakness and an abundance of His grace.

Though the Church in Austria, Germany, India and elsewhere still vie for my affections, it has been my privilege to be a member of the pastoral staff at Church of the Redeemer for five years now and counting.   Call our style of music worship ‘Ancient-Future,’ ‘Blended,’ or even a tad schizophrenic.  (After all, we’ve been known to mingle 4th century chant with 8th century hymns with Chris Tomlin songs, in the same service.)  But, I call it ‘well with my soul.’   Also, my fellow musician/volunteers are the best I’ve ever served with.

Jennifer was ordained Deacon in the Anglican Communion in January of 2012.  If the Lord wills, she will be made priest in the coming months.

Editor’s note: Jennifer is one of the only people in Nashville not on Facebook, but you can still read more about her and her musical adventures at www.jennifermartin.com.
