Fiscal Year and Annual Meeting Change
June 30, 2011
Church of the Redeemer began almost seven years ago. During our time
together as a church, our Elders have frequently discussed changing our
fiscal year from January-December to July-June. There are many reasons
for this, chief among them is the way church giving patterns work. A
July-June budget allows the Elders to be much more responsive and
realistic, and less stressed, as we plan. A few months ago, the Elders
decided that the time for change has come. Redeemer's new fiscal year
begins tomorrow, July 1st. This means that a new budget was passed by
the Elders at their most recent meeting.
This also means that the date of our Annual Meeting will change. Our
Annual Meetings have always been in late January or early February. Now
our Annual Meeting will be in August, just after school starts. The
next Annual Meeting will be Sunday, August 21st, 2011 at noon in the
Fellowship Hall. The new budget will be presented, as well as plans for
the upcoming academic year.
The change of the date of the Annual Meeting necessitates a shift in the
month in which we elect Elders. Elders are elected for three-year
terms. Our most recent Elders began their terms in late January. With
the change in the Annual Meeting date, the Council of Elders was given
the option of either cutting short the terms of the current Elders by
about 6 months or extending them for about six months. They decided
that it would be best to extend the terms. This allows for greater
continuity by preventing us from losing 2/3 of our Elders over a six
month period. Therefore, there will not be an election of new Elders
until the 2012 Annual Meeting.
