Christmas Tree Bonfire
By Fr. Thomas McKenzie | January 3, 2012
January 6th at 6:00 p.m.
Each year our congregation brings together our natural Christmas trees for a bonfire. This is not simply a quick and fun way to get rid of your dried out Christmas tree. It is a joyful and exciting celebration of the coming of Jesus as the light of the world.
In our tradition, we do not throw away used-up objects that were devoted to the worship of Christ. We would never throw away an altar or a robe. Rather, we burn these objects as a way of honoring God and remembering both his holiness and ours. This is why we burn Christmas trees, objects used to worship Christ in our homes.
Bring your trees to the parking lot in back of the church on Friday night, January 6th at 6:00 p.m. (or you may drop it off ahead of time) and dress warmly. We will celebrate together regardless of the weather conditions.
